The Fort Sedgwick Museum, Depot Museum and Old Ford Garage offer three unique opportunities to learn more about Sedgwick County’s history, people and historical significance. All museums offer free admission with donations greatly appreciated.
These museums are volunteer-run and hours can vary. Visitors are strongly encouraged to call (970) 474-2061 prior to their visit to ensure a volunteer docent is available.
The Fort Sedgwick Museum, located at 114 East 1st Street, is Colorado’s only Pony Express Home Station and a U.S. military post (Camp Rankin later renamed Fort Sedgwick) from 1864 to 1871. This historically significant location was prominently featured in the 1990 film Dances with Wolves, which was filmed elsewhere.
The Depot Museum at Julesburg, located at 201 West 1st St, has been closed since Spring 2019, while volunteers and the local community have worked tirelessly to restore it to its original condition. Join us this summer for its grand reopening!
The Old Ford Garage, located at 112 East 1st St, is a privately owned collection of antique Ford vehicles, signage and gravity-fed gas pumps. The sights, sounds and smells of this one-time city garage will bring you back to a bygone era.
